Camping across the U.S. border, in Canada

My husband, daughter and I had never been to Canada. We decided we needed to change that and planned out the closest route to obtain our goal. Approximately eight hours of driving took us across the border to a campground where we spent two nights. We shopped at a Canadian dress shop where I bought a skirt and shirt and grocery store where we had to pay to checkout a shopping cart; and we went on bike rides in a beautiful, big park, where my husband scared the Canadian Geese and my daughter chased them, crawling toward them in mad dashes. Our trip also included a drive over the Mackinaw bridge, which connects the Upper Penninsula with lower Michigan. We camped nearby the bridge at a state park. As rugged Utah natives, we were surprised at the postage size campsites and the large lawnmowers used to cut the grass at such sites. This was not real camping :), but it was still fun.

Looks like a fun trip. Don't you love how they charge for shopping carts at some stores in Michigan? I thought that was funny! Looks like Jackie is getting big and cute!! Love it!

My wedding cake

My sister, Christie, made my wedding cake -- all five layers of it. It was fondant, covered in fresh red roses and green ribbon. For a more modern look she chose to make a square cake.

OK, here's the truth, what Renn and I really look like when we wake up. After our first backpacking trip as a couple, Renn's hair looked like grass growing on his head and mine lay flat and matted as we walked out of the mountains.

This is us on our last day at the Hummingbird Inn in Maneadero, Mexico. It was a fun week of service with Engineers Without Borders. Renn and other USU engineering students helped put in drain fields at an orphanage, The Gabriel House, for children with severe disabilities. I helped dig some holes and wrote an article for the newspaper about the experience.
